HAJJ 2022: MURIC COMMENDS NAHCON

25th July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

HAJJ 2022: MURIC COMMENDS NAHCON

As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosts nearly one million pilgrims for the emergency hajj 2022, an Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria for successfully airlifting Nigerian pilgrims in spite of several challenges.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday, 25th July, 2022 by the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The full statement reads:

“About 899,353 Muslims from all over the world performed this year’s limited emergency pilgrimage. Of this number, 43,008 came from Nigeria based on the allocation given to the country by Saudi Arabia authorities. This year’s hajj proved highly challenging due to the Covid-19 outbreak which thwarted efforts to perform the exercise in 2020 and 2021.

“Even at a stage, it was not clear whether or not hajj 2022 would take place. This uncertainty made planning and logistics difficult ab initio. This is why we must commend the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) under the able leadership of Alhaj Dhikrullah Hassan.

“43,008 Nigerians were transported in 73 flights in what observers see as a great achievement going by the fears and doubts expressed at the beginning of the airlifting operation due to time shortage.

“Even the pilgrims in various states were not so certain that they would be eventually airlifted. They were therefore full of praises for NAHCON when the unexpected happened. At least 96.4 percent of Nigerian pilgrims made it to the holy land.

“Equally praiseworthy is the return journey which kicked off a few days ago and is still in progress. A lot of intellectual logistic permutation has gone into the airlifting exercise from both Jedda and Madinah so much so that all Nigerian pilgrims are expected back in the country by Monday, 31st July, 2022. This feat is highly laudable, particularly coming at this difficult period.”

CAN LIED ABOUT BISHOPS BEING FAKE – MURIC

22nd July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

CAN LIED ABOUT BISHOPS BEING FAKE – MURIC

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday described several bishops and pastors who attended the unveiling of the vice presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Wednesday, 20th July, 2022 at the Shehu Musa Yaradua Centre, Abuja as fake clerics. But the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused CAN leadership of distancing themselves from reality and living in self-denial.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday, 22nd July, 2022 by the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads:

“Despite the brouhaha over the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettimah, many bishops and pastors attended the unveiling of the vice presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, 20th July, 2022 at the Shehu Musa Yaradua Centre, Abuja.

“In its own reaction, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday described the bishops and pastors who attended the event as fake clerics. The Vice President of CAN in the19 Northern States and Abuja who also doubles as chairman in Kaduna State, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said Tinubu was free to ‘hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them.’

Relying on fact checks published by a media house which confirmed the genuiness of the bishops and pastors, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused CAN leadership of distancing themselves from reality and living in self-denial. (https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2022/07/21/fact-check-are-bishops-pastors-who-attended-tinubus-unveiling-of-shettima-fake/).

“Going by the findings contained in this fact check, it is now very clear that leaders of CAN have distanced themselves from reality. They are living both in self-denial and self-delusion. They are pulling their followers by the nose. How low can a religious body descend? What does CAN stand to gain by deceiving its followers?

“Investigations have revealed the identities of many of the bishops whom Rev Hayab tagged ‘mechanics and artisans’. Three of these were :

1.  Bishop Kamoru who is from Lagos, a real cleric from Peace Chapel, Mararaba. A picture has emerged where he was seen conducting a wedding in the church and some of his members have come up to say that they knew him personally.

2.  Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, of Gkoko Catholic Diocese, Benue State. was also among the clerics whom CAN called fake. Father Alia is also the APC Governorship candidate in Benue.

3.  Pastor Prince Ugokwe, also confirmed that he is a real pastor and not fake.

“The identities of all the Christian clerics who attended the event have been revealed and none is fake. It is crystal clear from the above that CAN is not to be trusted. CAN disowns its own members who are not ordinary Christians but knowledgeable bishops and pastors. This shows that a caucus within the leadership of CAN has unleashed tyranny of the oligarchy on Christendom in Nigeria.

“The fact that several bishops and pastors dared CAN by attending the unveiling of the APC running mate in spite of directives by the umbrella Christian body to the contrary is also symptomatic of the hypocrisy and ineffectiveness of CAN’s noise over the Muslim-Muslim ticket. It is a toothless bulldog. CAN is long in rhetorics, short in facts. It also proves that serious-minded and knowledgeable Christians who can differentiate between right and wrong no longer follow CAN’s instructions.

“It is noteworthy that the same leader of CAN in the North, specifically Rev. Joseph John Hayab, was the one who tried to deceive Nigerians by claiming that the man who attempted to bomb the Living Faith Church on Sunday, 2nd February, 2020, was a Muslim whereas he was a Christian.

“Both the Nigerian Police, the accused himself and his father later confirmed that the man’s name was Nathaniel Samuel, a confirmed church-goer. This incident is verifiable. MURIC does not fabricate stories. (https://guardian.ng/life/nigerians-react-to-the-news-of-nathaniel-samuels-attempted-suicide bombing/#:~:text=NATHANIEL%20Samuel%2C%20the%20Christian%20young,to%20bomb%20a%20COCIN%20church; https://dailypost.ng/2020/02/04/living-faith-church-bomber-nathaniel-samuel-not-first-christian-terrorist-in-nigeria-buharis-aide-onochie/; https://dailytrust.com/kaduna-bomb-scare-nathaniel-samuel-is-a-christian-not-muslim-suspects-father).

“The attendance of the unveiling of Tinubu’s running mate two days ago and the attempt by CAN to paint the Christian clerics who attended the event as fake is another attempt by Nigeria’s Christian leaders to divide the country, whip up anti-Muslim sentiments and promote anarchy. CAN has shot itself in the foot. It insists that no Christian should vote for Tinubu’s party but it forgot that at least a Christian cleric is the gubernatorial candidate in Benue State. CAN should permanently close this can of worms and never open it again.

“Whereas Paul says, ‘Do not lie to one another’ (Colossians 3:9-10) Christian leaders find it expedient to pour torrents of lies on their followers. CAN leaders wilfully ignore the warning in Proverbs, ‘…He who breathes out lies will perish’ (Proverbs 19:9). Christian leaders are adept at crying wolf where there is none. They raise false alarm to cause confusion.

“It is good that this attempt has been debunked and CAN leaders exposed as pathological liars. We call the attention of Western embassies in Nigeria, particularly American and British embassies to these monumental falsehoods. These are the same Christian leaders who are invited by the American Congress to spread toxic information about Nigerian Muslims.

“We Nigerian Muslims are willing to peacefully coexist with our Christian neighbours but we are wary of the strong propensity of Christian leaders to tell lies from the pit of hell without blinking an eyelid.

“There have been so many instances in the past and, without doubt, many more to come so long as the West continues to give them listening ears without crosschecking the details and without caring to hear from the other side. The world is in grave danger if the champions of democracy continues to promote lopsided hearing.” #CANLied #USEmbassyNote #BritishEmbassyNote

‘JUJU LAWYER’ GRASPING AT STRAWS – MURIC

17th July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

‘JUJU LAWYER’ GRASPING AT STRAWS – MURIC

Chief Malcolm Omirhobo, the lawyer who recently dressed like a juju priest with a lawyer’s robe, has declared that he does not hate Islam and that he is not a religious bigot. Omirhobo was reacting to the allegation made in this regard by an Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC). In its own response, MURIC accused Omirhobo of grasping at straws after boxing himself to a corner.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, 17th July, 2022, by the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads :

“Chief Malcolm Omirhobo, the lawyer who recently dressed like a juju priest with a lawyer’s robe, has declared that he does not hate Islam and that he is not a religious bigot (https://newsbreak.ng/i-dont-hate-islam-not-a-religious-bigot-juju-lawyer-to-muric/).

“It will be recalled that MURIC in an earlier statement accused Omirhobo of hating Islam after appearing in a juju priest’s garb at the Supreme Court barely one week after the highest court in the land ruled in favour of hijab. Omirhobo later claimed that he does not hate Islam.

“Omirhobo can say that to the marines. They may believe him. We don’t. No serious minded Nigerian will believe him either. Omirhobo is grasping at straws after boxing himself to a corner.

“You claim that you don’t hate Muslims or Islam but you filed three cases against the interest of Islam and Nigerian Muslims within a period of two years. You claim that you are not a religious bigot but as a non-Muslim, you are championing hate-inspired cases.

“You also dressed like a lawyer cum juju priest ostensibly to protest against a pronouncement of respected honourable justices of the Supreme Court thereby subjecting the highest court in the land to ridicule and infamy when, as a lawyer, you are in the best position to know that a pronouncement of the Supreme Court can never be per in curiam (i.e. reached in manifest error).

“This man filed a suit against the Central Bank of Nigeria demanding the removal of Arabic from the naira. He also filed another suit against the Nigerian Army demanding the removal of Arabic from the logo of the Nigerian Army. Still not satisfied, he instituted another matter against the Nigerian Police over the approval of hijab for female Muslim policewomen.

“The last nail in the coffin was his appearance in a lawyer cum juju priest garments in the hallowed grounds of the Supreme Court apparently to cast aspersion on the latter’s pronouncement on hijab. MURIC has merely used expressions, idiomatic and otherwise, figurative and literal, that matched the actions of Omirhobo.

“It was Ian Flemming, the famous author of the James Bond series who said, ‘Once is happenstance. Twice is a coincidence. The third time is enemy action.’ Omirhobo publicly manifested open animosity towards Nigerian Muslims, not once, not twice, not even three times but four times. He should tell Nigerians the price tag on hatred as displayed in his private supermarket.

“If it is true that action speaks louder than voice, how can Omirhobo, in good conscience, take these four Islamophobic actions and still claim that he doesn’t hate Muslims and Islam? He has been ill-advised. The best option for him is to withdraw all three cases filed by him against the interest of Islam and in open opposition to the enjoyment of Allah-given fundamental human rights by Muslims.

“The picture of himself and the director of MURIC which he now brandishes publicly as evidence of his love for Muslims cannot exonerate him. Neither can it extenuate the allegation made by MURIC against him. Pictures are not enough evidence of friendship or love. We have seen avowed enemies sitting side by side in pictures.

“It should be noted that this particular picture which Omirhobo is displaying all over the world was taken within the premises of the Lagos High Court, Ikoyi, during the hearing of the case filed by Omirhobo against Arabic on naira. MURIC members were present in court as joiners and the picture was taken by those who attended the sitting following gestures that we should take pictures together.

“This was done on the spur of the moment as a mark of free-mindedness. If Omirhobo wants to prove that he is a friend of the director of MURIC, he should provide other pictures taken with the director in other places and wearing other dresses apart from the ones taken in court premises. Not only that, he should provide evidence of a single phone call, a single text message or a single whatshap chat between him and the director of MURIC.

“Omirhobo is grandstanding. He could not challenge any of the points raised by MURIC against him. For instance, he cannot deny that he has three anti-Arabic and anti-hijab cases in court. These are established facts and the records are there. Omirhobo cannot lead us by the nose.

True to the maxim nemo judex in causa sua (one cannot be a judge in his own case), he should not try to hoodwink us into believing that he is a friend of Muslims. Friend indeed! He should please spare us his cock and bull stories about his Muslim grandfather from Syria, his Muslim girlfriend and Muslim neighbours. His private relationship with some Muslims is not an excuse for his open display of hatred against Muslims.

“All we can establish for now is that his actions contradict his words. Omirhobo is advised to withdraw his anti-Muslim cases from the courts. He should also desist forthwith from dragging the hallowed name of the Supreme Court in the mud.

“As we draw the curtain on this advocacy, we affirm that all that we have said about Omirhobo are indisputable facts available in the public domain. Omirhobo claimed that he did not hate Islam but he derived so much joy and passion in challenging anything that has to do with Muslims and Islam.

“He challenged Arabic writing on the naira, he challenged the right of female Muslims and Muslim policewomen to use hijab. Also, he audaciously went ahead to make a caricature of the Supreme Court pronouncement on hijab. So, MURIC has only stated the obvious.”

TINUBU-SHETTIMA TICKET: ADDRESS THE CANDIDATE, NOT HIS CREED – MURIC

12th July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

TINUBU-SHETTIMA TICKET: ADDRESS THE CANDIDATE, NOT HIS CREED – MURIC

The Christian Association of Nigeria has threatened to escalate the situation in the country over the choice of a Muslim running mate by the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It will be recalled that the APC torch bearer picked former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his vice presidential candidate.

But in a swift reaction, an Islamic human rights advocacy group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has accused CAN of heating up the polity with its comment on Tinubu’s choice of a running mate. MURIC wants CAN to address the candidate, not his creed.

MURIC’s response was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, 12th July, 2022, by the group’s director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The group said:

“The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has come again. As usual, Muslim candidates for the 2023 presidential election are its targets. This time around it is Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate. Tinubu is under CAN’s hammer for picking a Muslim, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his vice presidential candidate and Rev. John Hayab of Kaduna state chapter of the organization is the axe man for CAN.

“We are not surprised by CAN’s verbal halitosis over Tinubu’s choice. The Christian umbrella body is just staying in character. It is always out to oppose any Muslim in power or any Muslim seeking office. That is because CAN will never be satisfied with a Muslim as president of Nigeria. It will not suit its agenda of Nigeria for Christ.

“CAN is simply hungry for power. We know CAN. The group has been canvassing for a Christian running mate not for the benefit of Nigerians but for parochial ends. The idea is to milk the Christian vice presidential candidate if his party wins in the end by claiming that the Christian umbrella body fought for him. It is for political influence, for contracts and for power. We advise CAN to form its own political party.

“Democracy is a game of numbers and every candidate should be allowed to make a free choice. It is not written in the constitution that a candidate must not pick a running mate from his own religious group. Every candidate’s choice is at his own peril. So what’s the big deal? What is CAN afraid of? Its own shadow, of course.

“Nigerians should not allow themselves to be deceived by CAN’s spiritual banditry. We should be looking at a candidate’s pedigree, his integrity and competence. By the same token, a presidential candidate should look for a running mate who has electoral value as well as the relevant experience. CAN’s insistence on Muslim-Christian ticket is motivated by articulated religiousity and tramadolised spirituality. Candidates should not be assessed by their religion.

“CAN talks about fairness and balancing at the national level but ignores the gross lopsidedness in the Christian-Christian regimes of the whole South. Is CAN unaware that all but one of the 17 states in Southern Nigeria have Christian governors? That is 94% for Christians and just 6% for Muslims.

“There are only three (3) Muslim deputy governors in the whole Southern Nigeria (Lagos, Ogun and Oyo) as against fourteen (14) Christian deputy governors. That is 82% for Christians and 18% for Muslims. Ekiti and Ondo states with substantive Muslim population have Christian governors and Christian deputies. This life is give and take. The world goes round by giving and sharing. But why does CAN want to share by force when it is not prepared to give?

“Nigeria has 36 states. Of these, Christian governors are 20 while Muslim governors are just 16. That is 56% for Christians and a paltry 44% for Muslims. Yet CAN is not satisfied and the organisation will always cry ‘marginalisation’ when in actual fact it is taking all the milk and honey in the land. We are waiting for CAN to deny this 20 by 16 computation. But CAN cannot. It dares not because the facts are there, and facts are sacred. Are United States’ senators listening? Is Kukah still there?

“There are 22 Christian deputy governors in Nigeria as against 14 Muslim deputy governors. Mathematicians should put that together and work out the percentage. That is 61% for Christians and just 39% for Muslims. So what is CAN talking about?

“CAN’s charity does not begin at home. That is why it is making so much noise about a Muslim-Muslim ticket at the centre? CAN is not ready to share in the states but it wants to force sharing down our throats at the centre. Is that not double standard? Must CAN take everything?

“Can is simply hungry for power and it is always seeking ways to railroad everyone to have its own way. Bulldozing, blackmailing, harassment and intimidation are CAN’s stock in trade. But the same intimidating CAN is now the one accusing Tinubu of intimidating the Christian group and threatening to escalate the situation.

“Hear Rev. John Hayab, ‘We’ll escalate this issue because our call for fairness and the balancing of the presidential ticket for the sake of justice, unity and fairness apparently fell on deaf ears (https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/07/muslim-muslim-ticket-we-cant-be-intimidated-can-tells-tinubu-over-choice-of-shettima-as-running-mate/).

“We are of the opinion that we do not have to sound like bandits before we can make our points, and that is if there is any pointable point at all. Unfortunately CAN is not making any point here. All we see here is a threat. This is too pedestrian. It is jejune. What kind of ‘escalation’ is CAN threatening? We warn that nothing must happen to Tinubu. Shettima must not disappear.

“We warn CAN to leave Tinubu alone. MURIC will respond phrase for phrase and innuendo for innuendo whenever CAN attacks Tinubu or Shettima based on their religion. However, we have no business with references to their party or other official issues. We have no scintilla of doubt that both Tinubu and his running mate, including their political party, have competent officials capable of giving adequate response to political mudslings.

“CAN should stop all references to the religion of Tinubu. Islam is not contesting, Tinubu is. CAN should look beyond religion and focus on Tinubu’s pedigree. The Christian umbrella body will have MURIC to reckon with each time it throws dirt on Tinubu’s religion. Stop heating the polity. Address the candidate, not his creed.”
