PRESS RELEASE:
DANGOTE REFINERY HAS RIGHT TO SANCTION
WORKERS FOR SABOTAGE - MURIC
The management of Dangote Refinery recently alleged that
some of its Nigerian workers attempted to sabotage its facilities. Reacting to
the allegation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has opined that the
management of the refinery has inalienable right to sanction workers found to
have engaged in such a disgraceful act.
MURIC said further:
"Dangote Refinery recently alleged that some of
its Nigerian workers attempted to sabotage its facilities 22 times. According
to the refinery, the incidents include triggering fires, manipulating machines
and other mischievous attempts though all the attempts were foiled by the
refinery’s advanced control and monitoring system (https://opr.news/260ec5e8251125en_ng?link=1&client=news).
"MURIC is disturbed by this disclosure. It beats
us hollow that at a time when many find themselves among the army of unemployed
Nigerians, some people who should consider themselves lucky to be employed in
one of the highest paying companies in the country diverted their attention to
sabotaging the same company that puts bread on their table. It amounts to
biting the finger that feeds them.
"This new refinery and its management do not deserve
this. It is irresponsible, disappointing, unpatriotic and immoral.
"Moreso in a refinery that has become the cynosure
of all eyes, not only in Nigeria but across the world, earning the much needed
foreign exchange from all corners of the globe as its top ten importers include
the USA, Spain, France, South Korea, Singapore, etc (https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/08/dangote-refinery-usa-spain-france-south-korea-singapore-others-make-top-10-importers/;
https://businessday.ng/business-economy/article/these-4-african-countries-buy-petrol-from-dangote-refineries/).
“Nigerians have suffered enough. From days of fuel scarcity,
long queues and sleeping at petrol stations for days, Dangote Refinery
propelled the Nigerian petroleum ecosystem to the present season of fuel
abundance, lower price and total absence of black market practice.
“It will be an unprecedented fall from grace to grass if we
allow a few greedy and unpatriotic Nigerians to force this country back to the
days of suffering. With our oil reserve capacity at a proven 38 billion barrels,
our natural gas reserves of 210 Tscf and as the leading oil producing country
in Africa churning out 1.549 million barrels per day as at November 2025, we
deserve steady availability of fuel at the lowest price.
“It must also be added that Nigeria has attained self-sufficiency
in fuel supply as the output from Dangote Refinery has reached 1.4 million
barrels per day whereas the total daily consumption of fuel in Nigeria is between 48 and 50
million litres of fuel as at 2024 and 2025. This means we are going to be very comfortable
in the oil sector for a long time as long as we do not allow disruption via sabotage
or radical and irresponsible unionism within Dangote Refinery.
"As in all other private establishments, the
management of the refinery has inalienable right to sanction workers found to
have engaged in such a disgraceful act bearing in mind that sabotage was partly
responsible for the fall of Nigeria’s three refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri
and Kaduna.
"Any attempt from any quarter to vindicate the
culprits or extenuate their diabolical action must be condemned. Indiscipline
must not be condoned in such a sensitive department of the economy. The system
must be sanitized. We assert very strongly that Dangote Refinery has the
inalienable right to sanction saboteur workers."
