IGNORE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST NAHCON ON SOCIAL MEDIA

28th March, 2019

PRESS RELEASE:
IGNORE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST NAHCON ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The social media has been awash recently with a fake hajj fare. In addition, some Muslim individuals and groups have been calling on the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to expose what they called an outrageous N1.8 million hajj fare. Some of the social media messages have also been calling on principal actors in the Federal Government (FG) to take action.

MURIC has responded with a press statement aimed at nipping the rumour in the bud. In its response issued on Thursday, 28th March, 2019, the Islamic human rights organization debunked the allegation of an outrageous hajj fare as the handiwork of mischievous elements who have their hidden agenda.

“We are fully aware of what is happening. We received all those messages on social media but as a responsible Islamic group, we did not allow our emotion to run riot. We investigated and found out that the allegation is false, baseless and unfounded.

“It is borne out of mischief. Somebody somewhere has his own agenda and they want to use MURIC to spread false alarm or to bring fellow Muslims down. We will not allow ourselves to be used as tools in Nigeria’s notorious pull-him-down syndrome (PhD).

“Among our findings is that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has not even fixed any hajj fare yet. So where did they get the figures which they are brandishing? Another discovery is that this same document was in circulation about three years ago and it was refuted at the time.

“Social media may be good but it is pregnant with pitfalls. We therefore warn Muslims to be wary of the negative aspects of social media, particularly fake news. It is not only counter-productive but also destructive. Fake news is an ill wind that blows no one any good.

“We advise Muslims around the country to always put their faith into real practice by following the true teachings of Islam. The teaching of Islam on an issue like this is in Qur’an 49:6 where Allah says, ‘O you who believe! If an evil person comes to you with any news, verify it lest you should harm people in ignorance and afterwards you become regretful for what you have done.’

“The Glorious Qur’an also warns against spreading unverified information or acting on it because there are eschatological implications for such actions. It says, ‘And follow not that of which you have no knowledge. Verily, the hearing, and the sight, and the heart of each of those ones will be questioned’ (Qur’an 17:36)

“As we rise from this intervention, we declare that the hajj fare package which has gone viral on social media is fake, unrealistic and a mirage. We enjoin Nigerian Muslims to avoid spreading fake news, to investigate every piece of information before acting on them and before sharing them. Finally, we advocate caution on the part of every Nigerian in respect of use of social media”

MURIC FAULTS FG ON HIJAB SAGA

26th March, 2019

MURIC FAULTS FG ON HIJAB SAGA

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has faulted a statement credited to the Federal Government (FG) on the hijab saga. FG was quoted last week as saying that it would not interfere in the hijab imbroglio which has embroiled the South West.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Islamic human rights organization on Tuesday 26th March, 2019. The statement was signed by Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Founder and Director of the organization.

“The Federal Government cannot afford to close its eyes to this serious human rights abuse within in its domain. The whole country is FG’s constituency. Isn’t FG concerned that the girl child is being chased out of school on account of her religion?

“School girls in hijab were locked out of the school gates in the University of Ibadan International School (UIS) and Federal University of Technology Staff School, Ogbomosho. The same has happened in Abeokuta and Lagos. Apart from this, the courts in the South West are saturated with hijab cases.

“The court cases underline the need for FG to direct the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation to invite all the commissioners for Justice in the affected states to discuss the issue.

“There are serious implications involved in this hijab imbroglio. It is more than just simple denial of a head cover. Those who deprive female Muslim children of the right to use hijab are engaging in child abuse, stigmatization and profiling. By treating the Muslim girl-child with contempt and derision, they expose her to ridicule, assault the dignity of her human person and rob her of her self-confidence.

“In addition, they promote child depression and education-fatigue in the girl-child because their hostile and illegal action is capable of discouraging the Muslim girl-child from attending school. This is paradoxical because various state governments have criminalized failure to attend school by any child of school age. Failure to indicate interest in the hijab affair in the South West will defeat FG’s campaign for girl-child education.

“It is equally important to add that FG’s lack of interest is already breeding impunity in illegality as other federal agencies have made it their cardinal duty to persecute Muslim women who wear hijab. The excesses manifest in immigration department where Muslim women in hijab are forced to remove it before ‘capturing’ takes place for processing international passports.

“The same is currently happening in the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) where women in hijab are subjected to this humiliating demand before ‘capturing’ for driving licences. The involvement of federal agencies in the victimization of Muslim women makes it more imperative for FG to show interest. It proves that the problem is not limited to the South West. It has national spread.

“It requires strategic thinking. FG must rise to the occasion before it is too late. The Muslims are complaining now without being violent. We are still fortunate that MURIC, which is spearheading the matter is a non-violent human rights group which employs civilized methods to make its demands. We must not wait until extremist elements hijack the struggle. We remind FG that justice is the soul of peace. Those who deny one cannot enjoy the other.

“We therefore advise FG to issue a circular criminalizing the harassment of women in hijab in any government office in Nigeria. Furthermore, FG must educate these government functionaries on the illegality of disallowing hijab-wearing women from performing their civic responsibilities. Government must also go further by ensuring that any civil servant who is caught doing so after the enlightenment is duly punished.

“The Nigerian constitution is rich in guidelines but compliance, implementation and enforcement are the problems. Refusal to allow a woman in hijab to perform a civic duty is a breach of Section 42 of the1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which stipulates that:
(1) A citizen of Nigeria of a particular community, ethnic group, place of origin, sex, RELIGION or political opinion shall not, by reason only that he is such a person:-
(a) be subjected either expressly by, or in the practical application of, any law in force in Nigeria or any executive or administrative action of the government (or its agencies-addition ours), to disabilities or RESTRICTIONS to which citizens of Nigeria, of other communities, ethnic groups, places of origin, sex, religion or political opinions are not made subject.

“It is also a contravention of Section 13 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act (1991) which provides that, “a public officer shall not do or direct to be done, in abuse of his office, any act prejudicial to the rights of any person knowing that such act is unlawful or contrary to any government policy’’

“To conclude this advocacy, we call on FG to review its stand on noninvolvement in the hijab affair. It is a matter of serious national concern. We urge FG to urgently issue a circular to all its ministries and agencies stopping the illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional intimidation of women in hijab as explained above. We assert that denial of right to use hijab in schools is child abuse, stigmatization, promotion of girl-child depression and deprivation of girl-child education”.

WAEC OFFICIAL THREATENS MURIC’S DIRECTOR

25th March, 2019

PRESS RELEASE:
WAEC OFFICIAL THREATENS MURIC’S DIRECTOR

A deputy registrar in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Henry S. A. Osidehinde has been accused of issuing threats against the Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola.

Mr. Osidehinde, a reverend, issued the threat during a WAEC seminar for teachers held at the council’s headquarters in Ogba, Ikeja, on Thursday, 14th March, 2019. This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Monday, 25th March, 2019. The statement was jointly signed by the general secretary of the organization, Alhaji Yakeen Williams and the public relations officer, Mr, Shafiu Ayorinde.

According to MURIC, the WAEC official allegedly said, “Even in Nigeria we are becoming over-religious. We are becoming more holier (sic) than Pope and more holier (sic) than the man in Saudi Arabia, that someone like Professor Ishaq Akintola will now be going to schools and disrupting places because of free time. We need to stop this.

“I mention this because it is getting too much and I expect the Lagos State Government to take proper action against Professor Ishaq Akintola. He went to a school and disrupted the registration exercise there. I have the video here. No, don’t threaten an institution that belongs to the government.

“The government can take anybody out and you may not see the person again and nothing will happen. Nothing. Not that they will kill the person. They will just take that person out of circulation and keep him somewhere”.

MURIC expressed shock at the threat issued by the WAEC official. Continuing, the human rights organization said, “This is nauseating. A Christian reverend holding a high post in such a sensitive institution nurses such pernicious ideas against a fellow human being? Where is his Christlikeness? It is sad that there are many like him in the civil service.

“This Muslim-hater forgot that we are in an IT world. Things have changed. Hardly can you say anything nowadays and get away with it. There are records everywhere today. Even walls now have ears. We are waiting for him to deny it. We have the audio clip. Just let him try to deny it.

“We cannot take Mr. Osidehinde’s threat against our Director lightly. It is outrageous. How can a whole deputy registrar in WAEC office talk like that? He has simply proved that he is a Christian fanatic. How can you wish a fellow Nigerian should disappear permanently? He must explain all these to the authorities.

“The deputy registrar complained that Akintola was threatening an institution (i.e. WAEC) that belongs to the government. But we will like to ask the reverend/deputy registrar if it is right to use an institution that belongs to government to persecute Muslims.

“Or is it WAEC that sent him on this criminal errand? Does WAEC wish Akintola dead? Does the examination body want our Director to disappear? It had better not happen. But did WAEC authorize its Christian officials to use their positions to vilify Muslims and wish them kidnapped or killed? Did WAEC ask its officials to use an institution that belongs to government to persecute Muslims?

“It is abundantly clear from the above transcript that Reverend Osidehinde is filled with ill-will for Professor Akintola. He has evil desires. He wants Akintola to disappear. What we are not sure of is the extent to which he can go. That is what the security agencies should find out from him. Does the government have a special squad that makes people disappear? Will he arrange to kidnap Akintola if government fails to make him disappear? Will he organize an assassination?”

MURIC also called on the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, to launch a full investigation into the incident. The group also sought protection for its Director and members of his family.

“Reverend Osidehinde wants to cause crisis in this country by carelessly issuing threat against a public figure. We call on the security agencies to launch full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. We also ask for protection for our Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola. Nobody should be allowed to play God in the lives of his fellowmen.

“We remind the Inspector General of Police that our Director is a public figure and a notable Muslim leader. Threat to the life of such a person should not be ignored. We are certain that the security agencies know what we are talking about”.

The Islamic human rights organization explained why it intervened in the school incident.

“Helpless parents whose children were being forced to remove their hijab in Iba Estate Senior Secondary School called us to help. They also came with us. It is a public school, not a private property. It belongs to all of us. Therefore nobody has the right to use such property for the persecution of Muslim children. It is called a school, not a prison yard for crying out loud. In any case the Lagos State Government declared that hijab is legitimate and that female Muslim students have the right to use it.

“Surprisingly, overzealous and fanatical school principals and teachers refused to obey the state government’s directive. They ordered the children to remove their hijab when they were about to take pictures for the registration of WAEC. That was Draconian. It was an illegal order and the parents kicked.

“Recalcitrant principals and teachers who continue to disobey Lagos government’s directive on hijab should know that those who disallow what the state government allows make it impossible for Muslim students not to disobey. The teachers disobeyed the state government and the parents told their children to disobey the teachers. Muslim children are being persecuted by fanatical Christian principals and teachers under the guise of performing official functions.

“MURIC merely went in to ensure that government’s directive was carried out. We went there to ensure that fanatical teachers are not allowed to sabotage government’s policy. In any case, was it WAEC that gave instructions that female Muslim students should remove their hijab as claimed by those who came to register the students?

“Did WAEC also issue the same instruction to schools in Northern Nigeria? The school’s action was illegal. You cannot build anything on nullity. The school principal or his reverend/deputy registrar friend in WAEC may want to go to court for the action taken by MURIC. We are waiting.

MURIC denied the claim made by Osidehinde in the audio that Akintola or MURIC threatened WAEC.

“It is a big lie. Neither Akintola as an individual nor MURIC has ever threatened any individual or institution. It is not in our character. We challenge the reverend/deputy registrar to provide his evidence for Nigerians to see.

The problem we have in Nigeria today is that fanatics like Reverend Osidehinde become carried away by their religious zeal so much so that they allow it to becloud their objectivity. They use their public office to persecute people of other faith. Meanwhile they see Akintola and MURIC as a threat to their illegal exploit. That is simply what has happened. That is why our reverend wants Akintola guillotined.

MURIC wondered how WAEC has been condoning excesses committed against Muslims. It also requested WAEC to investigate the matter internally and take necessary action afterwards.

“We are wondering what is happening in WAEC and we are asking if Muslims are safe in the hands of this regional examination body. Why is Islamophobia so deeply entrenched in WAEC? A WAEC official yanked off the hijab from a female Muslim candidate’s head right inside the examination hall some years back. We reported the case but what did WAEC do?

“What is WAEC going to do with this case of threat to life coming from a top management staff, an officer of the rank of deputy registrar? Why was he so flippant, so careless? Was the seminar about MURIC’s activities or about Akintola? If it is not so, why the dangerous digression? Has Deputy Registrar Osidehinde behaved professionally? When did beer parlour gossip become WAEC’s business? Or does his threat represent WAEC’s official position? If so, is WAEC just going to sit back, pat him on the back and give him double promotion? Nigerians are watching.

“On our part, we demand that WAEC commences investigation into the threat to the life of our Director with immediate effect. The fact that the threat was made in the course of carrying out an official duty makes it mandatory for the examination body to take disciplinary action against its erring staff. Osidehinde personalized issues and allowed his hatred for Muslims to override official discipline. WAEC needs to clear its good name.

“At this juncture, we are compelled to ask what Osidehinde and his cohorts want. They are now after the life of a man who devoted his entire life to peaceful persuasion. This is a man who boldly condemned Boko Haram and constantly urges Muslims to eschew extremism and remain law-abiding.  By seeking to kill him or make him disappear, it means they will not be satisfied until he keeps quiet and allows them to do whatever they like with Nigerian Muslims.

“They are not happy with him because he stands between them and their desire to silence Muslims permanently, to persecute them and finally to eliminate Islam completely from the entire country. As the founder of MURIC, Akintola has modelled his organization on pacific activism, non-violence and dialogue and has never been involved in any violent incident.

“Nonetheless, our Director is known for outstanding courage on account of which he was recently turbaned as the Kinniun Adinni (Lion of Scholars). The courage which he exhibits in fighting against the oppression of Muslims should not be misinterpreted as lawlessness or religious extremism. We reject such blackmail. Akintola is merely fighting for justice, fairness and equity and he uses intellectual and peaceful methods, not violence.

“In a nutshell, we condemn this threat against our Director. We charge the IG to take necessary steps capable of ensuring Professor Akintola’s safety. We call on WAEC to immediately institute investigations into the matter”.

SOUTH WEST: MURIC DEMANDS MUSLIM MINISTERS

21st March, 2019

SOUTH WEST: MURIC DEMANDS MUSLIM MINISTERS

As Nigeria prepares for the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari and his ministerial list, the Muslim Rights Concern has proactively demanded that Muslims must have a fair share of the list of ministers who will be appointed from the South West.

This position was made known in a press statement issued by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) on Friday, 22nd March, 2019 and signed by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

MURIC, a human rights group, argued that despite the fact that Muslims are in the majority in the South West, Muslims in the region have always been shortchanged politically.

The group added, “We received the worst treatment under former President Goodluck Jonathan. He appointed six ministers from the sub-region but, to our dismay, all of them were Christians. We complained severally about this gross injustice but he ignored us for three good years (2011 to 2014).

“A delegation of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) led by the Sultan of Sokoto met him in Aso Rock and presented this lopsidedness among other grudges. This was on Wednesday 26th March, 2014. To our surprise, Jonathan retorted by asking us why the Northern states have not been sponsoring Christians in the North on pilgrimage.

“That was the kind of leader Jonathan was. We complained to him about the marginalization of a Muslim majority in the South West and he challenged us with the issue of Christian minorities in the North. That was how he exposed himself as a president whose interest lay in waging a crusade against Muslims. He reluctantly appointed two Muslims some months later. Wailers accusing President Buhari of lopsided appointments may take this as food for thought.

“MURIC is neither being selfish nor sentimental. Natural justice demands equitable representation if we are all part of the Nigerian project. By the time newly elected governors are sworn in on May 29, 2019, the South West will be having five Christian governors and only one Muslim governor. This leaves Muslims at a disadvantage in a sub-region where they are the majority.

“Unfortunately the situation was not redressed by the current administration. Of the six ministers appointed by Buhari, only two (Babatunde Raji Fashola and Adebayo Shittu) are Muslims. The remaining four are Christians. The only difference is that Buhari was not pressurized by the Muslims before he gave them two ministers. Neither were all his ministers from the area Christians like Jonathan did. Buhari gave the Muslims two slots and gave Christians four. Jonathan gave the Christians six and left the Muslims to whistle for their dinner.

“We are therefore demanding Muslim ministers in all the states where the governors are Christians (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti). This request should be considered against the backdrop of the gross marginalisation which Yoruba Muslims have faced in the past.

“As we take a break, we appeal to the presidency to consider the need to urgently address the injustice done to Muslims in the South West where they are the majority. They have always been politically marginalized despite having qualified personnel. Unfortunately Buhari’s regime has also inadvertently shortchanged them. In the name of justice, fairness and equity, therefore, we demand Muslim ministers in the five South West states where the governors will be Christians come May 29, 2019.

MURIC CONGRATULATES YORUBA GOVERNORS-ELECT

21st March, 2019

PRESS RELEASE:
MURIC CONGRATULATES YORUBA GOVERNORS-ELECT

The Muslim Rights Concern has congratulated newly elected governors in the South West. In a congratulatory message issued by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Thursday, 21st March, 2019, the human rights organization charged the governors-elect of Yorubaland to work towards raising the standard of living in the region.

MURIC also called on the governors-elect to run truly participatory administrations by appointing both Christians and Muslims into their cabinets.

“Whether we like it or not, religion plays a central role in the lives of Nigerians and the average Yoruba person is particularly known to be deeply religious. In order to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence, therefore, we advise the new governors-elect in the sub-region to evolve inclusive regimes when they appoint their chiefs of staff, secretary to the state governments, commissioners and board chairmen.

“The myth of a political party being an Islamic party has been broken with the emergence of the present set of governors in Yorubaland. Those who claim that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is an Islamic party have been proved wrong. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who emerged in Lagos, Dapo Abiodun in Ogun, Rotimi Akeredolu in Ondo and Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti are all Christians.

“The only APC governor who is a Muslim in the sub-region is Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State. So where is the Islamism in APC? That claim is therefore false and baseless. It was concocted by merchants of false propaganda to support their unfounded allegation of Islamisation of Nigeria which was levelled at President Muhammadu Buhari.

“MURIC calls attention to the new political reality in Yorubaland when the newly elected governors are sworn in on May 29, 2019. There will be five Christian governors and only one Muslim governor in the sub-region. Also, there will be three Christian deputy governors and three Muslim governors.

“We charge the governors to respect the civil liberties of the citizenry, particularly their Muslim subjects who are clamouring for the recognition of their Allah-given fundamental human rights. We advise Christian governors in particular not to tamper with the rights of Muslims in their states, including, but not limited to the right of female Muslim students and workers to wear hijab, the right to gainful employment, the right to access political appointment and official recognition of Maolud and Hijrah holidays.

“Without prejudice to other correlates which usually determine the emergence of state governors, we call on political stakeholders in Lagos, Ondo and Ekiti to ensure that Muslims emerge among their governorship candidates in 2023.

The case of Lagos is imperative because the Lagos branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria set the precedence by coming out boldly in 2015 to demand for a Christian governor. That was how the present governor of the state, Akinwumi Ambode, a Christian, became his party’s flagbearer. Sanwo-Olu, who is also a Christian has now emerged to complete the Christian tenure of two terms. It will be time to go back to the established convention of rotation between the two major religions in the interest of justice and fairness. A Muslim governor must therefore emerge in Lagos to rule for two terms from 2023 to 2031.

“In our concluding remarks, we congratulate the new governors-elect in Yorubaland. We call on them to make the people’s welfare the focus of their administration. We charge Christian governors to respect the dignity of their Muslim subjects and accord them the right to their Muslim identity without let or hinderance. In return, we appeal to the teeming Muslim population in the sub-region, the Imams and Islamic scholars to cooperate with the governors and to be law-abiding.

MURIC TO POLITICIANS: STOP ABUSING JUDICIAL PROCESS

20th March, 2019

MURIC TO POLITICIANS: STOP ABUSING JUDICIAL PROCESS

Two separate court injunctions stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from continuing the collation of results in Tafawa Balewa and Rivers States yesterday. The injunctions effectively compounded the dilemma facing INEC in its attempts to resolve the phenomenon of inconclusive results in five states of the federation.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed gross dissatisfaction with this development. The Islamic human rights organization blamed politicians for abusing the country’s judicial process. MURIC made this known in a press statement signed by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Wednesday, 20th March, 2019.

“Nigeria today is sandwiched between desperate politicians and a corrosive judicial system. The system holds INEC by the jugular, strangulating the electoral body in a vicious grip. Politicians are using too many injunctions to confuse INEC. They have taken liberty for licence and the system continues to condone their excesses. They approach the courts at will and, like spoiled brats, they spill the milk by kicking the cup, yet they cry over it.

“Except for very few, our politicians are too desperate and this cuts across the existing political parties. They are short in discipline, long in litigation. In fact discipline has long taken flight from their vocabulary. They pay more attention to the law courts, lawyers and judges than the citizens who voted for them. As a result, they waste a large portion of available resources on litigation, leaving too little for projects.

“It is our considered opinion that the desperation exhibited by politicians is caused by the high profit margin in politics while the recklessness and savagery are caused by a total desertification of eschatological values. Most politicians of present-day Nigeria lack piety. Impunity drives their political impulse because they find it easy to circumvent man-made law while very few among them remember that they will still render account to Allah in the Hereafter.

“The solution lies in the hands of the incoming National Assembly (NASS) and the Nigerian people. NASS should make political posts less attractive. In particular, the salaries of members of the NASS must be drastically reduced. Judges should rely more on rationality, morality and natural justice than law in its crudeness. The judicial process must be reformed. In particular, the process of filing injunctions must be tightened.

“Nigerians must change their docile profile and become active participants in the affairs of the nation. Nigerians must be prepared to stop the excesses of the political class through non-violent but sustained agitation.

“As we rise from this session, we assert the innocence of the Nigerian electoral body, INEC. In view of the obvious desperation and excesses manifested by Nigerian politicians, the lion share of the blame for the ups and downs in the 2019 general elections must go to the politicians. Nigeria has too many political imbeciles parading the political landscape. It is these political shenanigans who collude with the courts to make INEC a victim of circumstances”.

EKITI APPOINTMENTS: WE DON’T DEAL WITH AMORPHOUS GROUPS

19th March, 2019

EKITI APPOINTMENTS:
WE DON’T DEAL WITH AMORPHOUS GROUPS

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has reacted to a statement credited to a group called Integrity Leadership Organisation. The group last week faulted MURIC’s complaint about appointments made by the Ekiti State government.

The Islamic human rights organization had complained in a press statement issued on 12th March, 2019, that only one Muslim had been appointed so far in the major appointments made by the governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

In a follow-up press release signed by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Tuesday, 19th March, 2019, MURIC insisted that the Integrity Leadership Organisation had no business interfering in its interface with the Ekiti State government.

“Our complaint was directed at the government of Ekiti State. We have no business with any amorphous group. This matter is not for hirelings to handle. A third party has no explanations to offer when citizens make genuine complaints to government.

“A responsive and responsible government will respond to constructive inquiries. That is transparency, probity and accountability in government. We sincerely hope that the governor of Ekiti State is not being teleguided. It sounds funny to us that an hitherto unknown group will be responding to a genuine concern raised by Muslims.

“Even the response of the Integrity Leadership Organisation failed the integrity test. The group claimed that Muslims are just 5% in Ekiti State. How did they arrive at that figure. Where is the data? What demographic research figures did the group rely on to arrive at that percentage?

“The group also cleverly avoided our allegation that one of the two purported Muslim names was cooked up and that there was only one genuine Muslim on the list. Nothing about this serious infraction was mentioned in the group’s reaction. We also affirm categorically that there are more than enough appointable Muslims of Ekiti State origin who are worthy in both character and learning. We therefore urge the government not to dwell in escapist tactics.

“Finally, we urge Governor Kayode Fayemi to keep sycophants at arm’s length. The governor should put his cards on the table for all to see. Political jobbers as intermediaries between government and the citizenry can bring disastrous consequences. State chief executives should not allow themselves to be held captive by faceless groups. We remind the amiable governor that surrogate rule is a threat to democracy. We assure the governor that Muslims in Ekiti State are eagerly awaiting his next list of appointments”.
