PRESS RELEASE:
AKINTOLA BECOMES PROFESSOR
The Appointments and Promotions Committee of the Lagos State University recently promoted Dr. Is-haq Akintola to the rank of a full professor. This appointment has since been ratified by the Council of the university. Professor Akintola's promotion was backdated to the year 2008.
This promotion is in recognition of his numerous articles published in academic journals both in Nigeria and abroad. Two of his books, 'The Friday Question' (1993) and 'Sharia in Nigeria: an Eschatological Desideratum' (2001) are still in hot demand.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) hereby congratulates the director of the organization, Professor Ishaq Lakin Akintola on this meritorious and well-deserved conferment as a world-class Professor of Islamic Studies. We also commend the authorities of Lagos State University (LASU) for giving honour to whom honour is long overdue in view of Akintola’s antecedents and remarkable feats in Islamic knowledge and the pursuit of human rights.
As a proactive academic, Professor Is-haq Lakin Akintola has provided inspirational impetus to Muslims and non-Muslims in general. He has promoted love, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among animists, Christians and Muslims through his prompt press statements in newspapers and the radio as well as appearances on television. Professor Akintola has proved his piety-driven selflessness and astounding boldness with his critical analysis of the actions or inactions of governments at all levels as well as public office holders. His interventions during national crises have helped to douse tension in the country on many occasions.
Professor Akintola is a patriotic Nigerian and a role model per excellence for the youth, a human rights activist of inestimable treasure and a jihadist of great repute. His rise to the top of his career was characterised by humility, doggedness and simplicity. Above all, Akintola has proved himself as a genuine friend of the Nigerian masses through his concern for the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
MURIC appeals to the Nigerian youth who are already feeling frustrated to see the likes of Professor Akintola as light at the end of the tunnel. There is hope for Nigeria as long as we still have intellectuals like Akintola. We urge Nigerians to show appreciation for the contributions of this great patriot by embracing the values promoted by him, namely, honesty, hardwork and discipline and by shunning the evils condemned by him, namely, corruption, laziness, materialism and religious violence.
We pray that Allah continues to strengthen Professor Akintola physically and spiritually.
