‎‎ PRESS RELEASE:

MURIC ENGAGES ATIKU: AS A MUSLIM PRESIDENT, WHAT AWAITS MUSLIMS IN YOUR GOVERNMENT?

A faith-based civil liberties organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has engaged the former Vice President, 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC),  Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The group revealed that Nigeria since the colonial days had been structured along Christian culture. It highlighted several civil rights which successive Nigerian governments have denied Muslims and argued that many Muslim politicians and leaders are either unaware of this predicament or easily pressured through blackmail and harassment. It therefore wants to know if Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as a Muslim, is prepared to approach the issues clinically and objectively.

The engagement came via an open medium of communication directly addressed to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Thursday, 8th January, 2026 by the Executive Director of the Muslim rights advocacy group, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

Details of the engagement can be found below:

“Your Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, As-Salaam Alaikunm sir,

“We of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) celebrate you as the most resilient and highly consistent politician in Nigeria today. You have fought for a cause in which you strongly believe and have exhibited immense strength of character in its pursuit over the years. Your efforts are monumental, laudable and cerebral. Whether your critics like it or not, your name will be written in letters of gold in the annals of Nigerian history.

“As a Muslim steering his political ship towards the 2027 coast, we find it mandatory to engage you in dialogue concerning the current plight of Nigerian Muslims and their hopes and aspirations in a just, united and democratic Nigeria. The major reason for taking this step is our discovery that the condition of Muslims has remained the same under both Muslim and Christian leaders despite demands and agitations.

“We note with great pain that many Muslim politicians and leaders are either unaware of this predicament or they are easily pressured through blackmail and harassment by those who seek to keep Muslims in neocolonial administrative and economic bondage.

“Nigeria since the colonial days had been structured along Christian culture. Several Allah-given civil liberties are denied Muslims as Christian colonial heritage is hypothetically accepted as the norm. Sadly, however, successive Nigerian governments, including those led by Muslims, have also ignored the demands of Muslims.

“We do not want Your Excellency to fall into this category because you have always been a friend of MURIC. We strongly believe that even the past and present Muslim leaders who ignored the plights of Muslims are not to blame because they are products of an anti-Muslim system structured after Christian values in all aspects of life.

“Though Muslims by name, such Muslim leaders have been programmed to embrace Christian ways of life and to reject anything else, including the Islamic norms which have the capacity to set enslaved Muslims free. They have been conditioned to see such ideas as extremist frivolities or, at best, possessing nuisance values only. Afterall, people can only give what they have.

“The whole issue revolves around the question of restructuring as it affects Nigerian Muslims. That is the crux of the matter. We as a group will never ask any Muslim leader to deprive Christians of their rights. What we are after is a kind of restructuring that will give justice to both Muslims and Christians.

“Just as we told His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, a few days ago, our demands are encapsulated in these three areas: proportionate representation, equal rights and freedom of religion. There is no gainsaying the fact that Muslims have a significant percentage of the Nigerian population. We also possess qualified men and women, persons of pedigree and people of unquestionable integrity. We will therefore expect adequate and meaningful inclusion in appointments.

“In the same vein, we wish to bring to your attention certain issues bordering on equal rights and parity. These are things that Nigerian Christians are enjoying but which are denied Muslims. Yet Muslim leaders see such things as unworthy of attention. Examples are our demand for the declaration of the first day of the Islamic new year as a public holiday like 1st January of every year and the Friday Question. We will like to know your position on these and such matters.

“We want to know if, as a Muslim, you are prepared to approach the issues clinically and objectively. You may choose to respond through the media as we have done. However, we are open to invitation for dialogue if you so prefer.

“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of our highest esteem”.

‎VENEZUELA: STOP SEEKING US PROTECTION – MURIC ‎

‎‎5th January, 2026

‎‎PRESS RELEASE:

VENEZUELA: STOP SEEKING US PROTECTION – MURIC

‎‎An Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has advised Nigerians to stop seeking the protection and intervention of the United States in the affairs of Nigeria to avoid the fate of Venezuela.

‎‎The group gave the advice in a press statement issued on Monday, 5th January, 2026 by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

‎‎He said:

‎‎"United States troops raided Venezuela on Saturday, 3rd January, 2026, captured President Nicola Maduro Moro and took him to the US. Thereafter, President Donald Trump announced that the US would run Venezuela and control its 303.3 billion barrels vast crude oil reserves. We have no scintilla of doubt that discerning Nigerians have already imbibed one or two lessons from this incident.

‎‎"Nigerians must learn from Venezuela. America used hard drugs as an excuse there. They are all Christians, yet America has now taken control of their oil. Venezuela is a timely lesson for Nigeria.

‎‎"It is time to listen to well-meaning Nigerians who warned earlier that America was only using religion and the false narrative of Christian genocide to penetrate Nigeria for the exploitation of our resources. Those Nigerians are not even Muslims. Among them are Bishop Kukah, Fani Kayode, Reno Omokri, etc).

‎‎"Terrorists are killing Muslims on a daily basis in Kwara, Katsina, Kebbi, Borno, etc. It happened up till yesterday with between 42 and 52 people killed in Kasuwan-Daji market in Agwarra Local Government and many abducted (https://www.thecable.ng/gunmen-kill-42-abduct-children-in-niger-state-community/).

‎‎"Information reaching MURIC from our Niger State branch indicates that about 95% of the victims are Muslims. The optics on ground belie Christian genocide narrative. Majority of the Muslims killed in Kasuwan-Daji market in Niger State two days ago were slaughtered.

‎‎"Those who invited the US over this fabricated, imaginary and malicious allegation of Christian genocide, their sponsors and supporters are therefore selling their country to Western imperialists and they will all regret it when the US recalibrates the Venezuela scenario in Nigeria because their children may also become victims along with both Christians and Muslims.

“MURIC considers Nigerians lucky because Trump was about to come here ‘with guns ablazing’. He did come but he was distracted by the empty bravado of Nicolas Maduro Moro. The US president quickly did his calculations and found Venezuela’s massive 303.3 billion barrels of crude oil sitting next door more attractive than Nigeria’s 37.28 billion barrels.

“But it is not over yet. Nigeria is still the leading producer of crude oil in the whole of Africa and the aroma of delicious handiworks of Nigerian chefs may still attract Trump particularly if Christian genocide hallucinators, sponsors and supporters are still very active.

“MURIC calls on Nigerians to evolve a united front. We call for a change of mindset, particularly in the camp of promoters of Christian genocide version of the Nigerian story. It is the path to self-destruction. Trump is merely seeking to fulfill his campaign promise of Greater America.

“We are not saying America should not be great. We have said it before and we will repeat it here again: the average American is humane, loving, idealistic. America is already great and we are not thinking of pulling it down. It should remain great but not on an altar painted with the blood of innocent Nigerians, not on the extensive graveyards of deprived, impoverished and dehumanised Nigerian hoi polloi.

‎"Beware of a situation where monkey will work but baboon will chop. Beware of turning Nigeria to a country like Venezuela where Nigerians will work and America will cart away the fruits. Beware of turning over our milk and honey to foreigners. It will be too late to cry if this warning goes unheeded. Nigeria's 37.28 billion barrels of crude oil and other mineral resources are on our minds. Do not say we did not warn you".

MURIC WRITES PETER OBI AFTER DEFECTION TO ADC: WHAT IS THE FATE OF MUSLIMS UNDER YOUR DISPENSATION?

PRESS RELEASE:

MURIC WRITES PETER OBI AFTER DEFECTION TO ADC: WHAT IS THE FATE OF MUSLIMS UNDER YOUR DISPENSATION?

An Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has opened a dialogue window with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi who decamped to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) yesterday. The group seeks to know the fate of Nigerian Muslims in an administration led by him.

This was contained in an open letter addressed to Mr. Peter Obi on Friday, 2nd January, 2026 by the Executive Director of the Muslim rights advocacy group, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The letter reads:

“Dear Mr. Peter Obi,

“We commend you for your bold actions, your diligence and your resilience in the Nigerian political arena. Your defection to the African Democratic Congress yesterday, Friday, 2nd January, 2026 marks another turning point in what God has done in your life.

“As the race for the 2027 general elections began earlier than expected, Nigerians have once again been awakened to their civic responsibilities. In the process, we have noticed a flurry of political activities particularly your defection to the ADC yesterday and we believe that we should open a dialogue window with you.

“As the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election and a Christian, it is natural that you are a person of notable interest. It is therefore our keen desire to put our position clearly to you ab initio for mutual understanding.

“It is also our wish to know your disposition towards Nigerian Muslims and the wishes of the latter. This is important in furtherance of a robust national conversation as well as to keep faith with our avowed motto in MURIC, namely, ‘Dialogue, No Violence’.

“We are open, liberal and accommodating. We believe that the Nigerian project requires collaboration between people of all faiths while leadership position is not the exclusive right of people of any particular faith. In addition, we also believe that the people of the South East, like all other ethnicities, deserve the key to Aso Rock.

“We are paying attention to those who are likely to emerge as candidates in the coming elections in 2027 for similar engagements because the Muslim Rights Concern is concerned with the fate and welfare of Nigerian Muslims. Hence our interest in your person and your ambition to become the president of this country.

“Our demands are encapsulated in these three areas: proportionate representation, equal rights and freedom of religion.

An example is our demand for the declaration of the first day of the Islamic new year as a public holiday like 1st January of every year. We will like to know your position on this and such matters.

“Finally, we need the assurance that 2027 will be pure political exercise devoid of any reference to ‘religious war’. It is our strong belief that ‘Daddy’ alone cannot open the gates of Aso Rock for you, but with the support of Nigerian Muslims, including that of ‘Daddy’, your dream has a good chance of becoming a fait accompli.

“We can confirm authoritatively that Nigerian Muslims still nurse certain misgivings about you because of the above reason. We therefore demand a public statement stating what your relationship with Nigerian Muslims will be if you become president. How will you treat us?

“It is important to let you know that MURIC is not allergic to Nigeria having a Christian president. What we are interested in is merit, competence, integrity, justice and fairness. But above all, we will not support a candidate who will encroach on Allah-given fundamental rights of Muslims.

“Nigerian Muslims anxiously await your reaction. We believe that the worst families are those who bottle up their feelings about one another. We have leveraged on the connectivity provided by the media to pour out our feelings to you with the hope that the Fourth Estate of the Realm will graciously oblige by taking our message to you and to the good Nigerian people as well.

“Please accept the honour of our highest esteem. Thank you.”

NEW YEAR MESSAGE: ‎WAR ON TERROR: US NOT OUR SAVIOUR - MURIC

‎‎‎NEW YEAR MESSAGE:

WAR ON TERROR: US NOT OUR SAVIOUR -  MURIC

‎‎An Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC), has declared that the United States of America should not be regarded as the country that saved Nigeria from terrorism. The group insisted that gallant Nigerian soldiers were very capable and they would have dismantled the tentacles of terrorism if the US had not denied Nigeria the much needed weapons years ago before terrorism festered.

‎‎MURIC made the declaration in its new year message which was issued on Thursday, 1st January, 2026 by its Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

‎‎Details of the new year message can be found below:

‎‎"Nigeria's decade long war on terrorism received a boost recently when the United States of America launched missile strikes at terrorists' bases last week.

‎"With hindsight, we do not think the United States of America should be regarded as the saviour of Nigeria regarding terrorism, even after helping us to kill the terrorists who have turned life into a terrible nightmare for Nigerians.

‎‎"We assert clearly, unequivocally, irrevocably and categorically that Nigerian soldiers are gallant, capable and efficient. We are proud of them and we have full confidence in them. Our heroic Nigerian soldiers would have dismantled the tentacles of terrorism in the country if the US had not denied Nigeria the much needed weapons years ago before terrorism festered.

“Records show that Nigeria’s ambassador to the US, Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye, lamented over the refusal of America to sell weapons to his country to fight Boko Haram (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30006066). US lawmakers also allegedly blocked the sale of arms to Nigeria in 2015 (https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/476344-u-s-lawmakers-reportedly-block-sale-of-military-weapons-to-nigeria.html).

“It is also an open secret that Nigeria criticized the US in 2014 for refusing to sell weapons for fighting terrorists (https://www.france24.com/en/20141111-nigeria-slams-usa-denying-lethal-weapons-boko-haram-islamists). Therefore, only ignoramuses and unpatriotic Nigerians will hail the US today for carrying out strikes against the same terrorists which it did not allow Nigeria to fight effectively.

‎‎"Not only did the US refuse to sell vital weapons to Nigeria, it blocked our attempts to buy such weapons from other countries (https://www.timesofisrael.com/us-said-to-block-israeli-arms-deal-with-nigeria/). Worse still, the US imposed restrictions when it eventually sold the weapons to Nigeria. They allegedly told Nigeria it would face huge sanctions if the weapons were used in the North East! Interestingly the North East was where Boko Haram was most active. It was a humongous dilemma.

“Things became so bad that Boko Haram occupied and effectively controlled 17 local governments out of 21 in Borno state. This made the late President Muhammadu Buhari to complain that America’s ban on sale of weapons to Nigeria amounts to aiding Boko Haram (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-33634607).

‎‎"This is why the US has no moral right to claim the glory in the recent airstrikes against terrorists. It was something the Nigerian Army could have done themselves had the US not held its hands. We may thank the US for attacking the terrorists but we will not canonize America or give it the status of a hero nation.

“Had the US been prompt and sincere had been good, but it elected to procrastinate until it got out of hand. Procrastination, as we all know, is the thief of time. The US stole our precious time. It must not claim heroism today.

‎‎"In like manner, we must blame the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for disabling the Nigerian Army by diverting money meant for the purchase of weapons. It is on record that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan allowed party leaders to share the sum of $2.1 billion meant for weapons to fight Boko Haram. That was way back around 2015 (https://thenationonlineng.net/pdp-urges-jonathan-to-speak-on-2-1bn-arms-gate/)

‎‎"It is easy to bend a sapling, but nobody can bend a tree. The PDP retarded the progress of Nigerian soldiers in the fight against terrorism by ‘spending’ the money meant for weapons on campaigns but the last nail in the coffin of debilitation of the Nigerian Army was the refusal of the US to give Nigeria access to vital weapons even though we were ready to pay for them.

‎‎"The true optics, therefore, is that both the PDP and the US held the hands of our soldiers and allowed the terrorists to dig in until it became too late. To that extent, therefore, intelligent and patriotic Nigerians should not glorify the US. It is not our saviour.

‎‎"MURIC is also not surprised by what is presently happening to the PDP as a political party. PDP is now on its knees, humiliated, emaciated, debilitated. Its power and glory gone. Its lustre taken by another before it's very eyes. It is greed and avaricious covetousness that drove PDP to where it is today.

‎‎"The US deliberately alleged Christian genocide as an excuse to divide Nigerians against themselves. Of course we want all terrorists eliminated but the US should not be allowed to claim the glory because of its hidden agenda.

‎‎"Neither will intelligent Nigerians glorify the US for any victory over the terrorists. Nigerians want the terrorists defeated as quickly as possible but not at the risk of enthroning American hegemony.

‎‎"We wish to correct the wrong impression that our own leaders could not defeat the terrorists because they were weak. That is far from the truth. Olusegun Obasanjo was a fighting machine incarnate. Goodluck Jonathan was a giant among Lilliputians. The enemies of late Muhammadu Buhari wet their pants when he roared. As for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Lion of Bourdillon, he is the small body with big engine.

‎"Our leaders are not weaklings. They have always been big and strong. But modern warfare requires more than that. It relies on weaponry. Yes, weaponry. No leader can defeat terrorists without better weapons and the US can do and undo at that stage.

‎‎"That is what the US has and it has deprived our leaders of weapons thereby portraying them as incompetent. Has anyone noticed how the US president took it upon himself to announce the attacks that took place last week? It is an attempt to demonise our president and idolize himself. It is the gospel according to neo-imperialism.

“As we dot our ‘i’s and cross our ‘t’s, we warn Nigerians to be wary of foreign powers. They want to be seen as heroes and benefactors but they are not. The imperialists will never do anything to benefit our country but theirs. We must continue to educate Nigerians: the US is not our saviour.”
