The suspected bombers are Lamba Goma, Filibus Danasa, Joshua Ali, Danjuma Sabo, Joseph Audu, Simon Gabriel, Bulus Haruna, Yohanna Ishaya and Daniel Ayuba (who was the immediate past Secretary of PDP at Tilden Fulani Ward, Toro LGA, Bauchi State). The suspects are members of the same COCIN church, Unguwar Rimi, a new and small Christian settlement between Tilden Fulani and Shere Hills. The suspects who were thoroughly beaten by the public were rescued by police and then detained at the Toro Divisional Police Division before they were transferred to Bauchi State Police Command, Bauchi. At about the same time this morning in the Neighbouring Plateau State, a bomb explosion was reported at the headquarters of the same COCIN church during a Sunday service. The number of casualties are not certain. The pastor of the targeted COCIN Church in Bauchi is Ishaya Izam, who recently arrived on posting from the Cocin headquarters in Jos, which was bombed this morning. The State Commissioner of Police Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba who confirmed the incident explained that the suspects were caught with dangerous weapons and explosives meant for destroying the place of worship. "Immediately we got the report, we deployed our men who arrested seven of the suspects with something like explosives and we are waiting for the bomb experts to confirm because sometimes after investigation it may turn out to be something not the Improvised Explosives Devices", he said. Aduba said investigation is currently going on after which the culprits will be arraigned and asked people of the area to remain calm. 19th February, 2012 PRESS RELEASE: ARREST OF LAGOS PROTESTERS: OPEN INVITATION TO CHAOS   About twenty activists who went on a memorial procession for the fallen heroes of the fuel subsidy protests were allegedly teargassed, brutalized and subsequently arrested yesterday at Maryland, Lagos. The protesters were on their way to Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, when their path was blocked by heavily armed policemen. Among those arrested were the wife of the late human rights activist Gani Fawehinmi, Mrs. Bukola Fawehinmi, her son, Muhammed Fawehinmi, former chairman of the University of Ibadan branch of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, Dr. Dipo Fashina.   The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is alarmed by this trend. The alleged brutalization, teargassing of peaceful protesters and their subsequent arrest is barbaric, illegal and unconstitutional. Section 40 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution guarantees right to peaceful assembly and association while Section 41 stipulates freedom of movement. Also Section 39 grants every citizen freedom of expression (including the liberty to express dissent, which the peaceful protest symbolized).        By interfering in the peaceful demonstration of these law-abiding citizens, the Lagos State Police Command has infringed upon the Allah-Given and constitutional rights of Nigerians. The action of the police has also exposed our democracy as a fraud and the federal government as incapable of stomaching opposition. It is open rape on democracy, an unmitigated act of hostility against the rule of law and an invitation to chaos.   MURIC calls on members of the international community to take note of the brutish bestiality of men of the Nigerian police. The Nigerian government is increasingly jittery of criticism, relentless in its repression of opposition, ruthless in its denial of human rights and highly contemptuous of the dignity of the human person.   We charge the new Acting Inspector General of Police to call his men to order because such violent repression of peaceful protests is provocative. It has the dangerous potential of charging the adrenalin of the youth. 7th February, 2012 PRESS RELEASE: BOMB EXPLOSIONS IN KADUNA   Multiple bomb explosions rocked the city of Kaduna today.  Reports say the explosions occurred at the base of the 1st Mechanised Division near the town of Kawo and at the Air Force training base near Mando. A third explosion took place near a highway overpass. Although some injuries were reported, no deaths have been confirmed.   We of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) are deeply pained by these ugly developments. No nation can rise in a state of confusion. Religion, which is supposed to bring people together in love and harmony is now being bastardised and misused to create fear and make blood flow.   MURIC unreservedly denounces this latest attack. We charge the Nigerian authorities to be more pragmatic in its handling of the crisis in the northern part of Nigeria. The option of dialogue remains the best in order to unravel the casus belli for this senseless carnage. A stich in time saves nine. MAULUD NABIYYI MESSAGE: MURIC CELEBRATES WITH MIXED FEELINGS Millions of Nigerian Muslims joined their counterparts across the world in celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) this weekend. The prophet was born in the city of Makkah on 12th Rabiul-Awwal, 570 C. E. Though born as an orphan and initially despised as a prophet of Allah, he won the admiration of his enemies not by wanton killing of open enemies but by forgiving his foes and tolerating those who held opposing views. Muhammad taught his followers to love their fellowmen, to give in charity, to protect the weak, to live a humble life, to respect women and elders, to shun violence and to embrace peace. He further advocated the virtues of diligence, transparent honesty and self-sacrifice. He warned against arrogance, pride and belligerence.   The Glorious Qur'an testifies to the impeccability of Muhammad's character by describing him as possessing very high moral (Qur'an 64:8). The Qur'an further instructs Muslims to emulate Muhammad in all their undertakings (Qur'an 33:21). The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) marks this occasion of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad with mixed feelings. While we thank Almighty Allah for enabling many Nigerians to witness the occasion, we are filled with sadness at the thought of avoidable loss of lives through indiscriminate bombing and shooting of innocent Nigerians. We are in despair over the senseless killing of Nigerians by fellow Nigerians and the sacriledgious invasion of churches. We cannot be celebrating while fellow Nigerians are weeping over their dead. We therefore mourn with our mourning brothers and sisters wherever the bereaved may be. We pray that Allah will give all the affected families the strength to bear their losses.  This year's Mauludul-Nabiyyi calls for sober reflections. It calls for prayers for our dear country. Nigeria today is at the crossroads. The foundation of this country is shaking. We are now exactly where we were in 1967. We need prayers more than anything else to escape a bloody interregnum as witnessed between 1967 and 1971. Nigeria is living between two wars. We therefore urge all religious groups to pray for peace and tranquility. On this august occasion, we charge the Boko Haram group to emulate the peace-loving mien of Prophet Muhammad by surrendering their weapons, taking a vow to shun violence and embracing dialogue. MURIC notes with deep concern that the victims of the violence so far are the undertrodden, the poor and the wretched. No governor, minister or any other high-ranking government official has been killed. Perhaps this informed the nonchalance in official circles. We appeal to Nigerian authorities to stop playing politics with the lives of ordinary Nigerians. The time to engage Boko Haram in sincere dialogue is now.
