PRESS RELEASE:

SOS: SAVE SUKUNTUNI MUSLIM COMMUNITY FROM BANDITS - MURIC

‎‎The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the authorities to rescue the Muslim community of Sukuntuni, Kankiya Local Government area of Katsina State from bandits. According to MURIC, the whole community has fled the area after bandits sent a letter to them.

‎‎This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, 8th April, 2026 by the Executive Director of the human rights organization, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

‎‎The full details as contained in the press release:

‎‎"We are in possession of a video clip showing a large number of Muslims fleeing their communities in Sukuntuni, Kankiya Local Government area of Katsina State. The affected communities stretch from Kankiya to Musawa, Chuga and Matazu.

“Reports say the raison d'etre for their flight was a letter purportedly sent to them by bandits demanding 700 cows and 1,000 sheep to avoid an invasion. The letter which was received on Monday, 6th April, 2026 gave the Muslims Friday, 10th April as the ultimatum.

‎‎"Panic stricken, the whole communities of Muslim residents decided to escape from the area before the Friday deadline. They were seen in their hundreds trekking to nowhere, melancholy, grief-stricken, looking for safe shelter. Our hearts bleed.  Who did this to Nigeria?

‎‎"MURIC charges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give priority to the question of insecurity. As we speak, Borno homes are replete with orphans and widows. The walls of Katsina are falling. Sokoto is reeling from pressure. Rivers of blood flow on the streets of Jos, Makurdi and Lokoja. Lagos still holds its breath and trembles from fear of the unknown.

‎‎"According to Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the security and welfare of the Nigerian people shall be the primary purpose of government.

‎‎"Mr. President, sir, you asked for this job and you readily inherited the assets and paraphernalia of government. You cannot avoid the liabilities. They are absolutely yours and the bulk stops at your table.

‎‎"To the honourable Minister of Defense, we have a duty to interrogate the way and manner you do your job. Muslim communities are bleeding and the Muslim Rights Concern is concerned. We are concerned that thousands of Muslim women wearing hijab are trekking on desolate roads, driven from their ancestral homes. Honouranle Minister, sir, if you minister, minister very well. If you are in charge of defence, defend very well.

‎‎"We call the attention of all and sundry, particularly the pundits of Christian genocide, that the people threatened by bandits in Sukuntuni, Katsina State and consequently driven from their homes are Muslims. So are thousands killed or kidnapped in Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara, etc.

‎‎"Muslims constitute the larger number of victims of terrorism and banditry. The narrative of Christian genocide is sheer myth, a fallacy, a sham. No attacks are targeted at any particular faith. Mosques are attacked just as churches are attacked. Attacks on schools have proved our theory of crowd mentality right. Terrorists prefer to attack large crowds where they stand to reap more. It is sheer criminality. No more, no less."

AMUPITAN MUST GO: HE IS A THREAT TO RELIGIOUS HARMONY - MURIC

‎‎6th April, 2026

PRESS RELEASE:

‎‎AMUPITAN MUST GO: HE IS A THREAT TO RELIGIOUS HARMONY - MURIC

·      ‎‎Replace him with a tolerant Christian

‎A non-govermental, non-profit making, faith-based, civil liberties group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has again demanded the sack of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan.

‎‎MURIC's grouse with INEC chairman is the toxic 80-page legal brief authored by the professor which was one of the major documents used by the United States of America to indict Nigeria on the highly controversial and volatile issue of Christian genocide.

‎‎MURIC said:

‎‎"We are highly disappointed with both the Federal Government (FG) and Professor Joash Amupitan for their graveyard silence over the demand of the Nigerian Muslim Community that the INEC boss should be removed for penning the toxic 80-page legal brief which was one of the major documents used by the United States of America to indict Nigeria on the highly controversial and volatile issue of Christian genocide.

‎‎"We are especially disappointed that FG has elected to ignore calls to sack the INEC boss made by several Islamic organizations in the country. It is lack of sensitivity.

‎‎"As far as Nigerian Muslims are concerned, Joash Amupitan has become personna non grata to our own vision of the Nigerian electoral architecture. Even the PVC revalidation exercise being planned by him is seen by us as a trap where prospective Muslim voters will be massively disenfranchised.

‎‎"Amupitan has become an electoral burden to INEC, a human landmine and the personification of existential threat to Nigerian Muslim voters.

‎‎"He sold Nigeria once. He will sell Nigeria again. Anyone who invites imperialists into the internal affairs of his country deserves treason-related scrutiny. We hereby declare a vote of no confidence in the current INEC boss. FG should replace him with a tolerant Christian. To us, Amupitan is a live wire, highly combustible.

‎‎"Even if FG did not act, he is expected to have voluntarily resigned with the gravity of the allegation leveled against him. That would have been integrity activated. But Amupitan continues to hang on to a loose string from a spider's web in spite of the grave allegation staring him in the face.

‎‎"Nigeria cannot advance in any notable field if people like Amupitan continue to revel in the infamous sit-tight syndrome. The INEC boss should know when the party is over. He should know very well that he could not have been appointed to that sensitive office if his pathological hatred for Muslims had been known earlier, particularly his ignoble role in pushing the false, misleading and malicious Christian genocide narrative.

‎‎"Amupitan should have resigned honourably after the lid was blown off the entire thing. But he held on, desperately. The most interesting aspect of all these is that our INEC boss has not denied involvement to date. Observers are miffed by his silence because it is only in Nigeria that such impunity thrives. People resign from office in other climes over such scandals and misdeeds.

‎‎The list of those who resigned from public offices over scandals in more civilised environments include Rep. Jim Wright (House Speaker 1989), Rep. Bob Livingston (Speaker 1998), British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (over the 'Pincher scandal' and 'Partygate' 2022) and more recently, in January 2025, Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq resigned over questions regarding her financial ties to the ousted Bangladeshi leader.

‎‎"But never in Nigeria where sit-tight syndrome is the order of the day. Perhaps the INEC boss thinks we would soon get tired of the matter. Hiw wrong can he be! On the contrary, we are just starting. Aluta continua, victoria acerta. We welcome Professor Joash Amupitan to 'genocidegate'.

‎‎"Nigeria has never had a worse umpire at the helm of our electoral affairs. He is a living embodiment of Muslim-Christian dichotomy. He is therefore a potent threat to religious harmony. It is hard for Muslims to contemplate forgiveness with Amupitan as the electoral umpire. Amupitan must go!"

Stop the Emotional Blackmail: South West Muslims Deserve Fair Governorship Representation

Stop the Emotional Blackmail: South West Muslims Deserve Fair Governorship Representation

At a critical moment when political parties are making far-reaching decisions on candidates for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections across Southwest Nigeria, the call for justice, equity, and fairness must not be drowned by sentiments, bias, or emotional manipulation.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Ogun State Chapter has once again reaffirmed its position, fairness must prevail in the distribution of political leadership, particularly in Osun,Ekiti, Ondo ,Oyo, Lagos, and Ogun States.

This position was contained in a statement issued by the State Chairman, Ustaadh Tajudeen Jimoh Alao AAN AMC, and made public by the State Secretary, Ambassador Olaleye Rasheed Damilare.

It reads:

Today, we find it necessary to extend our voice to states like Ondo,Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, and Ogun, where Christian candidates have consistently emerged and continued to dominate the political space, calling for a more inclusive and balanced representation that reflects the diversity of the people in these regions.

However, fairness demands balance. In Ogun State, where leadership is currently under a Christian governor, justice and equity require that a Muslim should be given the opportunity to be the next governor.

This is not a demand born out of bias, but a call for inclusiveness and equal representation.

In Lagos State, history is clear. Following the tenure of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, the state has experienced over a decade of Christian leadership at the helm. True fairness dictates that Muslims should now be given the chance to lead for the next phase of governance.

Similarly, Oyo State has witnessed a pattern that calls for reflection. As 2027 approaches, it is only just and equitable that Muslims are given a fair opportunity to occupy the governorship seat.

It is both unfortunate and misleading that calls for fairness are often twisted into narratives of division or political sponsorship.*

Let it be clearly stated: MURIC is not sponsored by any politician or political machinery.

We are not enemies of the government. We are not enemies of our Christian brothers and sisters.

What we stand for is simple and universal: justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence.

Those who attempt to reduce this call to mere religious agitation miss the point entirely.

This is not about religion, it is about humanity. It is about building a society where no group feels marginalized, overlooked, or silenced.*

A nation that fails to recognize the rights of all its people cannot truly progress.

And where there is no justice, there can be no peace.

Where there is no peace, development becomes nothing but an illusion.

We urge political stakeholders, party leaders, and the good people of Southwest Nigeria to rise above sentiments, manipulation, and emotional blackmail.

Let fairness guide decisions. Let justice shape the future. Let equity define our democracy.

Only then can we build a society where every citizen, regardless of belief, feels seen, valued, and represented.

Signed

MURIC NORTHERN WING GREETS NORTHERN CHRISTIANS ON END OF LENT, CALLS FOR SINCERITY

MUSLIM RIGHTS CONCERN (MURIC)

‎Motto: Dialogue, Not Violence

2nd April, 2026

PRESS RELEASE:

MURIC NORTHERN WING GREETS NORTHERN CHRISTIANS ON END OF LENT, CALLS FOR SINCERITY

— Urges the regional Christian association to stop writing fictitious petitions to

the US, tame its wild members, be patriotic, uphold integrity, and promote inter-faith harmony.

The Northern wing of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has greeted Northern Christians on the occasion of the end of the lent fasting period marking Good Friday.

MURIC called on the Forum of Northern Christians (FNC) also known as the Northern Christian Association (NCA) to prioritise its internal cohesion rather than making some insincere and political remarks.

The call was made in response to a recent statement made by Rev Joseph John Hayab, the Chairman of the Northern Christians, to the Muslim Ummah during the just concluded Eid-al Fitr celebration in which he called for mutual respect, understanding and love among the Nigerian Muslims and Christians.

"MURIC takes this call with a pinch of salt and even goes further to express its reservations and surprise behind Rev. Hayab's motive for making a statement that is for all intent and purposes hypocritical."

The observation was made in a statement issued on Thursday, 2nd April, 2026 by the Kano State Chairman of MURIC, Malam Hassan Sani Indabawa, who also doubles as Coordinator, MURIC Northern Wing.

The full statement reads:

"A Christian group known as Forum of Northern Christians (FNC) or Northern Christians Association (NCA) had on 20th March, 2026 released a supposedly goodwill message marking the successful completion of Ramadan fast by Nigerian Muslims. The Northern Christians further advised Nigerian Muslims to 'continue to foster mutual respect, understanding, and love among all faiths and communities in our beloved nation.' (https://leadership.ng/northern-christians-greet-muslims-on-eid-el-fitr-urge-unity/). MURIC, however, views this remark as incredulous, quixotic and hypocritical.

"We are quick to express our skepticism on the motive of Rev. Joseph Hayab while the antics of some Christian leadership who were engaged in an incendiary campaign against the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, by inviting foreign forces to invade the country ostensibly on the false narrative that there was an ongoing 'Christian genocide', is still fresh in our memory.

"It is perplexing to note that while Northern Christians urge unity in the day, they write petitions to the US in the night. Rev. Hayab in particular played a  significant role in inciting the American narrative of Christian genocide in Nigeria. He was physically present at the failed joint briefing of both Muslim and Christian leaders with the American delegation on Christian genocide.

"Instead of allowing a joint briefing, the Christian team which was led by Hayab, elected to meet the Americans separately. Only God knows what they told the Americans behind our back. Rev. Hayab cannot deny being present at that event. MURIC's Executive Director was also there. If Northern Christians were so keen on meeting the Americans separately, how can they start talking about unity and love today?

"Most significant is the leading role played by the largely northern Christians in the hate campaign against Nigerian Muslims. What has the northern Christians got to say on the ignoble role played by their leadership, before imploring the Muslims for 'understanding, unity and love'?

"Without the leaders, the ordinary Northern Muslims and Christians share mutual love, respect and understanding as demonstrated by the spirit of neighbourliness, tolerance and accommodation across the North in some communities where the Christians form the minority. Their rights are respected, they live in peace and are regarded as bona fide citizens with unfettered access to fundamental rights and privileges.

"Without any equivocation, we strongly assert without any fear of contradiction, the relative peace and harmony being enjoyed by the minority Christians living in Muslim-majority states like Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Nassarawa and Northern Kaduna. One has to juxtapose this set up with the well documented horrendous ethnic cleansing and religious persecution being meted out to minority Muslims in some places like Plateau, Benue and some Southern States.

"This was coming after series of reckless incitements and hate campaigns made by one Reverend Ezekiel Bwede Dachomo, an extremist Christian clergy from Plateau State, notorious for calling for violence and extreme hate against Muslims and Islam. In his unrestrained bigotry, Rev Dachomo had issued a 'command' for the Plateau State youths to rise up to what only he and God knows. The reverend is among the foremost northern Christian leaders that passionately called for USA President, Donald Trump, to come and 'save' Nigerian Christians. What he says about Islam’s most sacred symbols are unprintable and quite sacrilegious that no liberal person can ever utter such intense, profane blasphemy. In one of his public plea for President Trump, he said, the Nigerian Christians 'saw Trump as God!'

"There are strong and wide accusations that Christian leaders in Nigeria are often quick to condemn acts of violence against Christians but remain silent or ignore similar acts perpetrated by Christians against Muslims, contradicting the hypocritical call for unity, love and mutual respect.

"Rev Dachomo is not alone in his unpatriotic call for foreign intervention and formenting mischief, he is one of the several northern Christian leaders that alternate their call for understanding, love and mutual respect with discreet employment of mischief to demonise and vilify Nigerian Muslims. Therefore, the least that can be expected from a faith-based group, like the Northern Christians Association (NCA), especially its leadership, is to see a physical demonstration of integrity by highlighting accountability, establishing abilities through deeds rather than empty rhetoric.

"The gang-up against the Muslims by the Nigerian Christian groups brings to the fore the issue of trust, respect and interfaith understanding between the two religious groups. While Nigerian Muslims are in consensus with the Federal government of Nigeria by understanding the spiraling insecurity challenges the country is facing as multi-faceted and complex, affecting all sections of the country. Unfortunately, Northern Christians, especially, are quick to mischievously tag it as religiously inspired and motivated.

"Some northern Christian leaders like Bishop Mathew Hassan Kuka of Sokoto Diocese, Rt Rev Oliver Dashe Daoeme, Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese, Bishop Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe of Makurdi Diocese, Rev Fr Remigius Iyhula and Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, INEC Chairman had at various times written to the US, UN, EU and other world bodies falsely claiming genocide against Nigerian Christians while knowing fully well the blatant untruth of their allegations.

"The act of demarketing one's country — tarnishing its reputation — combined with inviting foreign military action is generally classified under serious national security crimes, most commonly as treason, treasonable felony, or sedition.

"We therefore find it genuinely baffling and incredible how with all these internal contradictions the northern Christian group failed to address these far more serious issues of double standard by its leadership but chose to engage in demagoguery.

"As equal stakeholders in the Nigerian project, we should all emphatically acknowledge the fact that God has destined for us to live as brothers and neighbours in spite of our religious, tribal and social differences. We have lived as Muslims and Christians for millennia and would continue to live for another millennia and therefore we must all genuinely work towards living in peace and mutual respect without engaging in mischief while refraining from making unpatriotic calls for the compromise of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

"The body of Christ must distance itself from the treacherous act of Judas Iscariot on Spy Wednesday. Only thus can the Nigerian interfaith community, particularly NIREC, act in unison.

"In ending our admonition, we strongly call on the Forum of Northern Christians (FNC) to, as a matter of utmost priority, put its house in order, tame its wild members, be patriotic, demonstrate integrity, eschew mischief, uphold sincerity and back words with action by ensuring behaviour match words. Simply put, just walk your talk, please."
