PLANNED SCREENING FOR OYO TEACHERS IN SALAH HOLIDAY DESIGNED TO EXEMPT MUSLIM APPLICANTS - MURIC

7th July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

PLANNED SCREENING FOR OYO TEACHERS IN SALAH HOLIDAY DESIGNED TO EXEMPT MUSLIM APPLICANTS - MURIC

The Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has allegedly fixed Monday, 11th July, 2022 which is a Salah public holiday, for the screening of newly recruited teachers in the state. However, an Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has kicked against the planned screening. MURIC described it as a ploy by the crusader regime of Governor Seyi Makinde to weed out newly employed Muslim teachers.

This was contained in a statement released by the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Sunday, 10th July, 2022.

The statement reads :

“Reports reaching us suggest that Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has fixed Monday, 11th July, 2022 (tomorrow) which is a Salah public holiday, for the screening of newly recruited teachers in the state. It is a ploy by the crusader regime of Governor Seyi Makinde to weed out newly employed Muslim teachers.

“We are waiting to see them do the screening without Muslim teachers tomorrow. The Federal Government declared the day and the day after (Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th July, 2022) as Salah holidays and that declaration was given wide publicity.

“Seyi Makinde is not deaf. It is plain Islamophobe. He is a Muslim-hater. Seyi Makinde is marginalising Muslims. He is persecuting us. But as law-abiding citizens, we will not go violent. We will not take the law into our hands.

“We are ready to go to court over this matter. Any such exercise carried out on a public holiday is ultra vires. It is null and void. It is impunity of the highest order. It is a hate action against Oyo State Muslims. How can you expect Muslims to stay back during the Salah holidays for a kangaroo screening exercise?

“Makinde is a joker. He will hear from our lawyers.  How can a state government conduct a screening exercise for newly recruited teachers during the Salah holiday? Can Seyi Makinde pick Christmas or Easter holidays to do this? This is done in bad conscience.

“MURIC urges newly recruited Muslim teachers to boycott that screening. It is illegal, illegitimate, unlawful and unconstitutional screening exercise? No decision taken before, during and after that screening can stand. Makinde has shot himself in the foot.”

MURIC THANKS NECO FOR SHIFTING EXAM FROM SALAH DAY

5th July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

MURIC THANKS NECO FOR SHIFTING EXAM FROM SALAH DAY

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has shifted the examination which was originally slated for Salah day (Saturday. 9th July, 2022) after an appeal by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic human rights organisation. The group has, in turn, expressed appreciation to NECO for its prompt and positive response and for being sensitive to the plight of candidates.

This was revealed in a press release circulated by MURIC on Tuesday, 5th July, 2022. The statement was signed by the group’s director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads :

“The National Examinations Council (NECO) has shifted the examination which was originally slated for Salah day (Saturday, 9th July, 2022) after our appeal to the examination body (https://dailytrust.com/muric-asks-neco-to-shift-exam-from-sallah-day; https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/muric-implores-neco-to-shelve-exams-scheduled-for-sallah-day/).

“The adjusted timetable on NECO website now shows that the Salah holiday begins on Friday 8th July to Wednesday 13th July, 2022. In addition, Data Processing (Practical) which was initially scheduled for Salah Day is now billed for Thursday, 14th July, after the Salah holidays just as suggested by MURIC in its press statement of Sunday, 3rd July, 2022.

“We hereby express deep appreciation to NECO leadership for its swift and positive response. This development has portrayed the examination body in good light. NECO has demonstrated high level sensitivity to the plight of candidates and lack of bias against any religion.

“Not only that, the examination body has opened a new chapter of cordiality and dynamic partnership in the relationship between government agencies and the Nigerian public. This latest development has revealed the great leadership qualities inherent in the present leaders of NECO and the sense of commitment, sacrifice and service delivery which now drives staff of the examination body.

“We call on Muslims throughout the country to continue to live peacefully with their neighbours. We must shun spontaneous violence and mob action. Instead, issues which give us concern should be reported to Muslim leaders around us or to the security agencies for action. We also assure Nigerian Muslims that the doors of MURIC are always open and cases reported to us will be promptly treated.

“We urge Nigerians to borrow a leaf from the amicable resolution of this issue. Combat posture is never the best in solving conflicts. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) should learn to employ dialogue whenever there are issues in contention. At the same time, government and private concerns must show the political will to serve Nigerians.

“Unlike what our critics, traducers and adversaries will want people to believe about MURIC, namely, that we are a bunch of trouble-makers, war-mongers and terrorists, MURIC is a pacific organization, peace-loving, law-abiding and dialogue-prone. We detest violence and condemn terrorism. Our avowed motto is ‘Dialogue, Not Violence’.

“Our vision of Nigeria is that of a nation where people live together in peace and harmony, a nation in which no one is oppressed, where every citizen enjoys Allah-given fundamental human rights regardless of class, creed, or ethnicity.

“We are middle-roaders and socio-intellectual jihadists fighting corruption and extravagance, seeking freedom of worship for all, emancipation for the oppressed, justice for the persecuted, jobs for the jobless, food for the hungry, healing for the sick, clothing apparels for the naked and shelter for the homeless. All these are integral parts of principles of Islamic liberation theology which we have vowed to promote relentlessly.”

MURIC TO NECO : PLEASE SHIFT EXAM FROM SALAH DAY

3rd July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

MURIC TO NECO : PLEASE SHIFT EXAM FROM SALAH DAY

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has appealed to the National Examinations Council (NECO) to kindly shift its examination date of Saturday 9th July, 2022 due to its clash with the first day of Id al-Adha (Salah).

MURIC’s appeal was contained in a statement issued by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Sunday, 3rd July, 2022.

The statement reads :

“The National Examinations Council (NECO) has fixed one of its examinations, Data Processing (Practical) for Saturday 9th July, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. Coincidentally, that date clashes with the first day of Id al-Adha (Salah). See NECO 2022 examination timetable (2022 NECO June/July SSCE Internal Examination Time-Table (27th June - 12th August, 2022) | Original Version.

“We are fully aware that the clash was not deliberate as NECO had actually demonstrated goodwill by setting aside a whole week for Salah celebrations (Monday, 11th July to Friday 15th July) and this reflected in its timetable. This means that NECO had, ab initio, recognised the Salah holiday and the examination body did not deliberately fix an examination on that day.

“We therefore appeal to the NECO authorities to kindly shift the examination of that day alone (Saturday 9th July, 2022) to another date in order to enable its teeming Muslim candidates sit for their examinations. The paper which was originally fixed for Salah day may be taken on Thursday 14th July, 2022 which is one of the days set aside by NECO for the Salah holiday.

“MURIC wishes NECO authorities and staff as well as all Nigerians a happy Salah.”

TRANSFER CASE OF 50 CHILDREN FOUND IN ONDO CHURCH UNDERGROUND TO ABUJA IMMEDIATELY – MURIC TELLS IGP

2nd July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

TRANSFER CASE OF 50 CHILDREN FOUND IN ONDO CHURCH UNDERGROUND TO ABUJA IMMEDIATELY – MURIC TELLS IGP

More than 50 children were allegedly found by the Nigerian Police in the underground of a church in Valentino area of Ondo town in Ondo State in the evening of Friday, 1st July, 2022.

Reacting to the stunning discovery, an Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, to transfer the case to Abuja immediately.

MURIC spoke on Saturday, 2nd July, 2022 through its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola. He said :

“Men of the Nigerian Police allegedly found more than 50 children in the underground of a church in Valentino area of Ondo town in Ondo State in the evening of Friday, 1st July, 2022. This is shocking, terrifying and almost incredible https://newspeakonline.com/over-50-kidnapped-children-found-in-underground-of-ondo-church/).

“Such a scary find is not expected inside a place of worship. But before Nigerians start being judgemental, we advise the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to quickly intervene. The case must be transferred to Abuja immediately to avoid local interference by influential people.

“This is in the interest of the general public. Nigerians may never know the truth about this case as long as the case tarries long in Ondo Police Command. The identities of all the children are of immense importance. Vested interests may hamper investigations if the children and the arrested suspects remain in Ondo.

“MURIC commends the police for this breakthrough. It adds another feather to the Nigerian Police cap, particularly the Ondo State Police Command. We remind Nigerians that here is one of the reasons we need our gallant policemen and another good reason for cooperating with them and treating them with respect. This feat confirms our belief that the Nigerian Police is one of the best in the world if it gets every necessary equipment.

“This case may be the open sesame of several unexplained cases of child abduction and the strange disappearance of children in various parts of the country. Nigerians are eagerly waiting. The IG must not disappoint concerned parents who have been wallowing in deep anguish over the loss of their children for so long. The ball is in IG Usman Alkali’s court.”

INVESTIGATE KIDNAP OF 21 MUSLIM CHILDREN BY ECWA CHURCH – MURIC

1st July, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

INVESTIGATE KIDNAP OF 21 MUSLIM CHILDREN BY ECWA CHURCH – MURIC

An Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery and eventual rescue of 21 Muslim children from a building belonging to the Evangelist Church Winning All (ECWA) in Jos.

It will be recalled that the DSS recently raided a house located at JMDB quarters, in the Tudun Wada community of Jos North LGA of Plateau State, where the operatives rescued 21 Muslim children. The victims alleged that they were forcefully brought to the house and converted to Christianity.

The General Secretary of ECWA, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu, has also confirmed that the house in which the victims were kept was under the custody of the Church. (https://www.crimechannels.com/how-dss-operatives-rescue-21-almajirai-boys-kidnapped-camped-inside-church/).

In a statement issued by the Muslim rights advocacy group, MURIC, the organisation expressed shock at the criminal implication of the discovery and demanded full investigation. The statement was issued on Friday, 1st July, 2022 by the direc tor of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The full statement reads:

“We are bewildered by reports that 21 Muslim children were rescued by the DSS from a building belonging to the Evangelist Church Winning All (ECWA) in Jos. The children were abducted from Gombe and forcefully brought to Jos.

“They had been kept for about six months before one of them escaped and sought help from a mosque in Jos. During captivity, they were forcefully converted and their Muslim names were changed to Christian names.

“This is like one of those stories from the movies. It is appalling. We are dealing with a highly sophisticated and meticulously planned conspiracy. The diabolical objective is to decimate Muslim population in Nigeria and eliminate Islamic landmarks wherever they exist.

“It is not a new phenomenon. This wicked plot has been in operation for several years without the Muslims suspecting anything. We recall the Kano 9 saga in which nine Muslim children were kidnapped from Kano and taken to Onitsha where their names were changed to Christian names. They were eventually rescued on Friday, 11th October 2019.

“The Kano 9 brouhaha is verifiable because it was in the news. See https://www.africa-press.net/nigeria/all-news/ganduje-speaks-on-kidnap-of-9-muslim-children-in-kano; https://www.channelstv.com/2019/10/13/police-rescue-nine-kidnapped-children-in-anambra/.

“Just as we are condemning the atrocity of ECWA church today, MURIC kicked against the abduction of those nine Muslim children from Kano in 2019. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/10/muric-seeks-justice-for-9-kidnapped-kano-children-kicks-against-kidnapping-for-christ/; https://dailypost.ng/2019/10/14/islamic-group-attacks-christians-kidnap-9-muslim-children-kano/).

“It was Kano in 2019. It has happened again in Gombe in 2022 and in a larger number. We are of the opinion that it has become a recurring decimal. It is widespread. If you discover one, hundreds of cases must have gone unnoticed. Nigerian Christians are using all available methods to eliminate Islam. They know no rules, no decorum. Fair or foul, what matters is to capture all Muslims in the Christian den. Blackmail, mischief, deceit, subterfuge, abracadabra, anything goes. The more you look, the less you see.

“Any Muslim in distress becomes an easy target. Any offer of help from them to a Muslim is a concealed trap. Any admission into their school is an invitation to deprivation of personal identity and the surrender of one’s civil liberties. Proselytisation is being pursued with such astonishing aggressiveness.

“To the average Nigerian Christian today, except for very few of them, the only good Muslim is the ‘liberal’ Muslim. Yet to them, the only ‘liberal’ Muslim is the one who surrenders his Allah-given fundamental human rights and drops all aspects of his Islamic identity.

“That explains the raison d’etre for the daily abduction of Muslim children for the purpose of forceful conversion. The Nigerian church is now deeply entrenched in widespread kidnapping for Christ, all in an attempt to fulfil the Nigeria for Christ Agenda.

“We therefore call on the security agencies to protect Muslim children from the evangelising marauders. Our children are no longer safe. Muslim parents are deprived of their tender ones. We are made to undergo severe pain and excruciating agony by our Christian neighbours in their ‘Lets go Fishing’ campaigns.

“They use exploitation, capitalisation and extortion in the South West to forcefully convert Muslim children and jobless Muslim youth to Christianity. But it is kidnapping that they use in the North. Whereas you can read Nigerian Muslims like a book, our neighbours are calculating, conspiratorial, secretive and stealthy.

“Nigerian Christians are fighting tooth and nail to ensure that they increase the number of their followers. This is because the larger the congregation, the higher the day’s collection and the more souls they win, the higher the tithe. What is at play here is pecuniary benefit, including social and political influence.

“To those friendly Christians who have no such hidden agenda, we doff our hats. We urge them to continue in their good relationship with their Muslim neighbours. We need each other for the progress of our dear nation. No bird can fly with only one wing.

“MURIC charges the press to fulfil its obligation of fair and balanced reportage. We are worried that whereas any negative incident concerning Muslims is given full publicity and even blown beyond proportion by the Nigerian media, those involving Christians are hardly mentioned. We see no reason why the kano 9 of 2019 and this Jos 21 cannot receive the same media hype as witnessed during the Ese Oruru imbroglio of March 2016. Selective attention is unethical.

“We demand full investigation into the abduction of the 21 Muslim children found in ECWA church in Jos. This ECWAgate must be properly investigated. There must be no sacred cow. This is a scandal that should not be allowed to be swept under the carpet. We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of DSS to launch their investigations into this messy affair. Nobody must tamper with the available evidence.”
